Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp confirms interest in signing Manchester City’s Emmanuel Adebayor on loan
The manager is looking at the possibility of taking the former Arsenal striker to White Hart Lane in order to temporarily strengthen his attacking options for this season
Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe and Roman Pavlyuchenko all failed to cement their place in the starting line-up last season for Spurs, and Redknapp has made known his intention to sign another striker this summer.
The Tottenham boss told reporters: “I think the chairman has been speaking, there’s been some talk. I'm not sure it’s a name that has been mentioned.
“I spoke to the chairman about the possibility of loaning him [Adebayor], but I'm not sure if they would, but if we could loan him he'd be of interest.
“He’s a quality player, we'll wait and see.”
Tottenham drew 1-1 with the Orlando Pirates in the latest match of their pre-season tour of South Africa, and Redknapp has praised Spurs' opponents for their display.
He said: “It was a good game, the Pirates played ever so well, in the second half especially they moved the ball and kept the ball great. They waited around our box and they gave us a real good test.
“They were very, very good, the second half after they got the equaliser they looked more likely to win than we did.
“The opposition tonight were very good; they won the treble last year and my coaching staff felt the Pirates tonight were very good.”
Pirates coach Julio Leal was disappointed with his team as he thought that they showboated during the match, which he felt showed disrespect towards Tottenham.
But Redknapp said: “They're confident with the ball and I have no problem with that at all, if the coach isn't happy with them it's different, but for me it didn't matter.
“They kept the ball. Okay, they showboated a bit, but it’s no big problem, they played very well today, they should be very proud of how they played against a Premier League side. I thought they were excellent.”
